Enhance a space’s sense of scale and warmth with textured finishes.  Use direction to compliment flow, and random pits to give a wall a sense of mass.  Patina washes give an aged feel, and aggregate mixes create unique surfaces that reference stone while being unmistakably hand-crafted.

Smooth & Polished

Shikkui plasters make exquisite  seamless surfaces with the look and feel of polished stone.  Customise colour, aggregate mix, and degree of polish.

Bespoke Plaster Finishes for Walls

Lime-based plasters offer the world’s most luxurious finishes with the widest range of customisation.  Combine with banding, blocking and custom troweling techniques for unlimited design options.  Choose from our bespoke colours to help you get your desired look and finish.

Choose your finish from one of our award-winning plasters:

Loma™ is the original earth plaster and our best-selling product. It conveys the essence of suede through its sensuous matte surfaces. Made with reclaimed marble sand and multiple clays, our patented formula offers a remarkable breadth of surface possibilities. Loma™ is also the basecoat for our Porcelina™ and Marittimo™ plasters, and can be used as a second coat.

Approximately 180 to 220 square feet per 50 lb. bag (per coat)

Porcelina™ is satin-smooth and easily blended for a marble-like surface. This product is often compared to the Venetian plasters of Italy. The quality of Porcelina™ is similar to the porcelain ceramic for which it was named. Porcelina™ is used as a second coat only.

Approximately 300 to 400 square feet per 50 lb. bag (per coat)

Marittimo™ is a name created with the sea (or mar) at its core. Marittimo™ uses recycled, crushed shells from the U.S. Gulf Coast. This finish lends itself to a smooth waxy feel or a textural sand finish depending on your choice of application. Marittimo™ is used as a second coat only.

Approximately 160 to 180 square feet per 50 lb. bag (per coat)

Enjarre™ (n-har-ray) is our only single-coat product. This application eliminates some of the labour and cost typically involved in finishing a wall. It can be applied to achieve a range of finishes, from very smooth to rustic and textured. Enjarre™ can be used as a basecoat for our other products.

Approximately 100 to 140 square feet per 63 lb. bag (per coat)

Up & EZ!

Up & EZ! is an additive that can be used as both a binder and primer and eliminates the use of the acrylic-based primer in our plaster system. Priming will still be necessary on outside corners and other vulnerable areas which need extra protection. Up & EZ! Can be mixed with the plaster and either troweled or rolled onto a surface, then back-troweled into place. Up & EZ! Will increase the workability of the plaster during your project and strengthen the end surface.

Primer Sand

Primer Sand is meant to be mixed with an approved paint primer and then rolled onto your wall. This creates tooth that aids American Clay plasters in properly adhering to the surface.

Primer Sand is a replacement for our Sanded Primer Elite (discontinued in 2011), however our Sanded Primer Elite (a paint primer pre-mixed with sand) is still appropriate to use as well. The mixture of Primer Sand (a unique blend of light weight sand aggregates) and an isolating paint primer will produce a textured sand primer that has a consistency similar to our Sanded Primer Elite. Sanded Primer Elite is still available for purchase at some of our retail locations in the event that you would prefer to use that option instead.

Primer Sand can be used with both conventional and zero- or low-VOC primers.

Mud Glue™

Formulated with the intention of protecting the environment and saving time and money on jobs, Mud Glue™ is both a binder and primer for our plasters. It does away with the need to prime walls separately, whether on new or existing walls. Mud Glue™ also serves as a hardening additive for our plasters, increasing resistance to impact and wear. A change in colour will occur with Mud Glue™. We recommend testing a small area on your wall to see the colour change.

Add-Mix™ hardens the dry plaster coat and increases its durability. This makes it an excellent additive for plasters installed in damage-prone rooms. It is added directly to the plaster while you mix it substituting it for up to 50% of the water. The degree of hardness in the plaster increases with the concentration of Add-Mix™. A change in colour may occur with Add-Mix™. We recommend testing a small area on your wall to see the colour change.

Colour Packs

American Clay colour packs contain naturally occurring mineral pigments, which means they are resistant to UV light and fading. American Clay pigments are placed in individual packs that are pre-measured to be added to one 50 lb. bag of plaster (Loma™, Porcelina™ or Marittimo™) or one 63 lb. bag of Enjarre™ plaster. Individual colour packs will vary in weight depending on how much pigment is used to create that specific colour. Our pigments are made in batches and every pack will have a batch number printed on the label. We do recommend using colour pigment packs from the same batch. If this is not an option, simply batch multiple bags of clay plaster with the different batches of pigment in a large mixing bin to ensure colour consistency.

Textural Additives

Want to add some visual interest to your walls? Try one of our textural additives. Mica is a natural additive that is highly reflective and is mixed into the clay prior to application. Mica is used to add more shimmer to the surface of an American Clay finish. Straw is a natural textural additive that can be used to create a number of different styles including achieving a comparable match to the classic adobe finish. Straw additive is mixed into the clay prior to application. We recommend straw for use in all finishes except Porcelina™.

American Clay has two sealers available for purchase. Our Penetrating Sealer produces a low-sheen layer of protection as well as some increased hardness to clay plaster walls. Our Gloss Sealer is a product used to enhance surface sheen while providing additional resistance to water and making the surface easier to clean. Please note, using sealers over American Clay plasters can create issues with colour and reparability.
